Qvantum’s innovative QE Series exhaust air heat pumps are delivering significant savings for residents of an apartment building in north London.

Installation company Baxter Heat Pumps Ltd was tasked with upgrading existing exhaust air systems from another manufacturer at 172 Liverpool Road, Islington, a block of 12 apartments. This case study focuses on a 125m² split-level, 3-bedroom property.
Data obtained from the first six months of 2025 (January-June inclusive) shows an average 44% reduction in energy use and operating costs for the homeowner. A further five QE systems have since been fitted and plans are now in place to roll out further installations throughout the apartment block.
Homeowner Colin Allan said:
“Running costs are greatly reduced. I can certainly say that 44% is an achievable figure. The cost over the last year has been £111 a month, which is down from £200-plus with the previous manufacturer, and that is running the system at a constant 20°C. It is remarkably quiet, and the away mode feature and the comfort cooling make it very user-friendly.“
The Solution
Available in 4kW and 6kW output, the QE is an energy efficient exhaust air heat pump capable of providing heating, hot water and ventilation for living spaces up to approximately 200m². A modular design means the units can be separated into two sections, allowing for easier handling and simpler installation.
The QE is inverter controlled and has an integrated accumulator tank/thermal battery which enables true energy peak price shaving for both hot water and heating. It is also a common modular component across the Qvantum’s domestic product range. Flexready® technology also means the heat pump software and hardware are ready to participate in different flex markets to help support grid balancing.
The unit’s heating extracts energy from the outgoing air. The inverter control automatically adjusts to the comfort demands of the home, thus minimising energy consumption.
Using heat from the integrated tank, domestic hot water is produced instantaneously. This ensures compliance with industry standards and effectively eliminates the risk of legionella.

The Customer
Simon Baxter, of Baxter Heat Pumps, said:
“The QE series is very well engineered. A key feature is that tap water does not come from the tank but is heated via an exchanger. Because of this you don’t have stored potable water and don’t have to worry about legionella or corrosion protection.
“The software is in a class of its own and you are taken through the installation step-by-step. Qvantum’s support is also superb – they have assembled a group that really enjoys providing service and taking care of its customers.”
Gerard Hodges, Managing Director of developer SGH London Ltd, said:
“The aftercare service from Qvantum has been second to none. Working with both Andrew Robinson and Geoff Turton has been refreshing in that they both care so much about the customer experience. They were always contactable and understood the issues that arose. We are now looking forward to working with the Qvantum team on our next project.’’

a user-friendly interface for simple system control
Geoff Turton, After Sales Technical Director at Qvantum UK, said
“We know first-hand just how impressive these units are but it’s always gratifying to see how they perform in the real world and the difference they can make.
“We always try to go the extra mile for our customers and the positive feedback regarding our support services is every bit as important as the performance of the equipment.”
Further energy recovery ventilation is available via Qvantum’s optional QS accessory.
